Do you have a gluten intolerance? Are you wondering what you can eat and drink that doesn’t bother your stomach and digestive tract? In an article from healthline.com called “The most common signs of gluten intolerance” they mention a list of foods that contribute to stomach aches pains or issues with diarrhea and constipation due to gluten intolerance.
A lot of “diet” foods and drinks use Sugar Alcohol instead of real sugars. This may be good to keep the label as “sugar-free” and avoid sugars but that is not always a good alternative. It may even make it worse. Common types of sugar alcohols include xylitol, sorbitol, and mannitol.
Brands with these three sugar alcohols even have to put warning signs on the labels. Why? Because consumption may cause laxative effects. You don’t need that from your snacks and drinks.
Sugar alcohols are also FODMAPs. “FODMAPs are types of carbohydrates found in certain foods, including wheat and beans. Studies have shown strong links between FODMAPs and digestive symptoms like gas, bloating, stomach pain, diarrhea, and constipation” according to Healthline.
Sugar is the enemy to most diets but are the symptoms of these sugar alcohols worth cutting sugar out or your diet or is it worse? Lucky enough there are other options. You could entirely avoid sugars and these sugar alcohols that may put you in a lot of discomfort and maybe ruin your day.
When you have your next sugar cravings, Instead of consuming high amounts of sugar alcohols, or sugary drinks and snacks, you can try either Erythritol or Stevia, 2 HEALTHY sugar alcohol options that won’t make you feel sick, bloated, gassy, constipated, or give you stomach pain, yet are still sweet as sugar.
Erythritol is a natural sweetener that tastes like sugar and is actually sugar alcohol. Erythritol is created when a type of yeast ferments glucose from corn or wheat starch.
Like Erythritol, stevia is also a natural ingredient. Stevia in nature is a plant leaf and many companies use it now after a processing and refining process. Stevia plants are used as a nonnutritive sweetener which means it has almost no calories. Stevia sweeteners can be good for anyone looking to lose weight.
